The VIIIth National Biomedical Engineering Congress (BEC2024) was held under the theme of "Biomedical Engineering Applications" by the Biomedical Engineering Department of Manisa Celal Bayar University at the Anemon Hotel in Manisa, after a hiatus of nine years.
The opening session of the congress was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Kadir Ay, Advisor to the Rector Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Erkan Turan, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Ahmet Türk, deans, and center directors.
Dr. Şeyma Taşdemir delivered the opening speech on behalf of the congress chairs and the Organizing Committee. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of Biomedical Engineering and discussed the history of Biomedical Engineering Congresses.
Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Yürekli, the Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department at MCBÜ, talked about the development and goals of the Biomedical Engineering Department.
In his speech, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Kadir Ay emphasized the importance of Biomedical Engineering and thanked the organizing committee of the VIIIth National Biomedical Engineering Congress, invited speakers, and participants.
On the first day of the congress, invited speakers such as Prof. Dr. Fazilet Vardar Sukan, Prof. Dr. Arif Çağlar, and Prof. Dr. Ashok Pandey presented talks on various topics related to Biomedical Engineering. The afternoon session featured presentations by Prof. Dr. Mehmet İnan and Doğan Taşkent, among others.
The second day of the congress included talks by Prof. Dr. Yannis Missirlis, Prof. Dr. S. İsmet Deliloğlu Gürhan, Prof. Dr. Erdal Bedir, and Ahmet Fethi Polat.
On the final day, Prof. Dr. K. Arzum Erdem Gürsan and Prof. Dr. Anne Frary presented their talks, followed by the last oral presentation sessions. The congress concluded with a closing speech and an award ceremony by Assoc. Dr. İrem Deniz Can, one of the congress chairs.
The VIIIth National Biomedical Engineering Congress hosted a total of 11 invited speakers, including two from abroad, along with 22 representatives from the industry, totaling 235 participants. Over three days, a total of 115 presentations, including 64 oral and 51 poster presentations, were given on topics such as bioprocesses, enzymes, bioinformatics, microfluidic systems, modeling, tissue engineering, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, nanomaterials, energy, biosensors, and biomedical applications in two simultaneous sessions.
